Mother's Day

It was Mother's Day yesterday here in the UK. Being a mummy, I like Mother's Day. My own Mum came to stay for the weekend and my brother popped in too. So it was a family affair. Although we love each other fiercely, my family is scattered across the country so I don't see them as much as I would like. I do have a vague idea of moving down to the coast to be closer to my mum after I have finished university but as that's just a wispy little dream at the moment, day's like yesterday are special. We laughed, we ate, we caught up.

I woke up to three little munchkins sitting on the end of my bed waiting to give me my pressies (homemade flowers made from toilet roll (resourcefulness at its best!) from my eldest daughter, a contract stating that I now have my very own little butler (or slave as he put it!) from my son, and a little box full of beads from my youngest daughter. All homemade with love and dreamt up by their own imaginations. How perfect is that? My mum used to buy them cards and a present and just get them to sign it - but this year my gifts meant so much more. I am a lucky mummy.

My own present to my mum involved being creative too. I decided to make use of some Rico Creative Poems aran that I had planned to make a scarf with. The colours suit my mum down to the ground so there was a change of plan and I made this...

I'm not really sure what this pattern is called - some sort of granny? But it is easy peasy! I was hoping the colour changes in the yarn would coincide with the rounds. They didn't exactly but I still love it. I attached it to a square of purple fabric that I had for the backing and (ahem) attacked an old cardie  for some buttons! Unfortunately I only finished sewing the buttons on early Sunday morning so I had no time to take any decent photo's before wrapping it and giving it to my mum!

Perhaps I should have had my butler do it.

Anyway Mother's Day was good. I love the crazy ride that is motherhood.

On a side note- Thank you for the comments on my last post. I would like my blog to become a little more personal but I always cringe before hitting the publish button! Your words mean so so much to me though - Thank You x

A little indulgence never hurt anybody....

Hello! I do hope you all enjoyed your Valentines. I've seen some lovely going's on blog wise....all hearty and cute! Not having a 'significant other' to woo me with chocolates and flowers (yes I did just say woo), Valentines day nearly slipped by unnoticed in my house this year. Even the children (who normally come home from school with gluey glitter hearts) came home empty handed - apparently they are too old for all that fun stuff at school now.

Well what's a girl to do?!

Treat herself of course! Sooooo I indulged in a little wine and a little online shopping....

Just because.


I also settled down to watch Bedlam on the old brain numbing box last night. Have any of you UKers seen it? My god it gives me the heebie-geebies! I'm not good with horror. I slept with my light on until I was 15 after watching Poltergeist and IT as a kid (no my parents didn't know I was watching them!) I really shouldn't do it to myself. You know most people hide behind cushions when they know a scary part is coming up in a film? Well I've found a new way of hiding (and it doesn't make you look like such a scaredy cat!) ......make your own cushion and become totally engrossed in getting those stitches right just when you know something is going to jump out!

Ta-Dahhhhhhhh! As promised for daughter number one - a pink and purpley cushion. This one is made up from  nine blocks using Jan Eatons 200 Blocks book (block number 3 called Target Practice.) The back is just striped trebles (ds in US terms) and took foooorrrreeeevvvvveeeeerrrrrr. Or so it seemed! (and I just realised I didn't get a photo of the back so you'll just have to take my word for it!)  I can quite see the benefits of using fabric for the back of cushions and believe me, if I'd had any - I would've used it!

So two down and one to go. Although daughter number 2 has asked for a white and teal cushion. Guess what? I have no white and teal in my over flowing basket. Every other colour under the rainbow but no white and teal. So unless I can persuade her into another colour, I shall be taking a trip to my LYS pretty soon. Oh poor, poor me! ;-)

It's a boy thing...

Waaaheeey!! Today is a good day. I actually feel like I have had enough sleep for once. The sun is shining. The house is a mess but I don't care. The little lovelies are at school (well at least for the next Ooooo, 20 mins!) and therefore not trying to rip each others hair out and I'm feeling rather productive on the uni front. I also have something to show you. This cushion is for my son, he complained the other week that I am always making girly pink stuff and nothing ever for him.

Hmph, I thought. He is right. But black and grey is soooooooo boring! A couple of years ago he would have been happy with some greens, reds, blues....but now he is a floppy haired, mumbling teen, only black will do. Tsk! I do hope he grows out of this stage pretty sharpish! However, working with black and grey wasn't all that bad and although I thought twice about making a cushion for a boy out of granny squares, I rather like it. It looks all 'cubey' made up.

I did go up to take pictures of the cushion on his bed but soon realised that my baby boys room has well and truly turned into a toxic 'no go' area and is certainly not fit for public viewing! Why do they have to grow up so quickly!?

So woohoo! I finished something! However I now have an order for a girly cushion for my daughter. But at least she chose pinks and purples!
