A little indulgence never hurt anybody....

Hello! I do hope you all enjoyed your Valentines. I've seen some lovely going's on blog wise....all hearty and cute! Not having a 'significant other' to woo me with chocolates and flowers (yes I did just say woo), Valentines day nearly slipped by unnoticed in my house this year. Even the children (who normally come home from school with gluey glitter hearts) came home empty handed - apparently they are too old for all that fun stuff at school now.

Well what's a girl to do?!

Treat herself of course! Sooooo I indulged in a little wine and a little online shopping....

Just because.


I also settled down to watch Bedlam on the old brain numbing box last night. Have any of you UKers seen it? My god it gives me the heebie-geebies! I'm not good with horror. I slept with my light on until I was 15 after watching Poltergeist and IT as a kid (no my parents didn't know I was watching them!) I really shouldn't do it to myself. You know most people hide behind cushions when they know a scary part is coming up in a film? Well I've found a new way of hiding (and it doesn't make you look like such a scaredy cat!) ......make your own cushion and become totally engrossed in getting those stitches right just when you know something is going to jump out!

Ta-Dahhhhhhhh! As promised for daughter number one - a pink and purpley cushion. This one is made up from  nine blocks using Jan Eatons 200 Blocks book (block number 3 called Target Practice.) The back is just striped trebles (ds in US terms) and took foooorrrreeeevvvvveeeeerrrrrr. Or so it seemed! (and I just realised I didn't get a photo of the back so you'll just have to take my word for it!)  I can quite see the benefits of using fabric for the back of cushions and believe me, if I'd had any - I would've used it!

So two down and one to go. Although daughter number 2 has asked for a white and teal cushion. Guess what? I have no white and teal in my over flowing basket. Every other colour under the rainbow but no white and teal. So unless I can persuade her into another colour, I shall be taking a trip to my LYS pretty soon. Oh poor, poor me! ;-)

Oopsie.

Getting into the bonfire night/autumnal theme I thought I'd whip up a block called Catherine Wheel from my 200 Crochet Blocks book last night. Feeling rather pleased with myself I thought I'd starch it to give it that crisp 'blocked' feel . Now I've never blocked before (although I probably should have) and set about heating up my iron - not giving a second thought that I'd used acrylic. Oh yes...I should've read up on blocking because I really didn't have a clue what I was doing.

A rather squished looking block. Never mind. Tonight I will be reading up on blocking! Have a great Saturday!

Lookie Look Look!

Ohhhh it seems like I have been waiting for these two books forever! It has actually only been two days but I am terrible when I'm expecting a parcel. Curtain tweaking, postman stalking, continuously checking the porch.....!

I have to catch the bus from across the road to take my children to school and as we were standing there in the drizzle the postman pulled up, jumped out of his van and left my parcel in the porch - I'm sure he did it just to make me twitchy with excitement the whole way there and back. Anyway the housework has gone out the window, my uni books are sitting untouched (I'm sure if they could tut they would be tutting furiously!) and I have spent the morning browsing and drooling and browsing some more. Look!

I.Can.Not.Wait.

Now all I need is some more fantastic coloured yarn. Can anyone recommend some good online shops? I do have a LYS but it tends to be full of neutral colours and I want something a little more 'wow' -  think Rett Grayson. However I did pick this up yesterday....

...and started making these from the fabulous pattern at The Royal Sisters. I have a vision of what I am going to do with them but I will keep it to myself for now. Give you a surprise if it all works out!

Right I'm sure I just heard a uni book sigh with disgust so I'm off to hit the books (noooooo not the crochet books, I promise!) Have a wonderful Thursday!
